Mobile carrier LG Uplus and Hoban Construction signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to build electric vehicle (EV) chargers on Monday.

Under the deal, LG Uplus will install EV chargers within the Hoban Summit apartment complexes and provide various related services such as subscriptions.

LG Uplus' EV charging business, labeled VoltUP, oversees the installation of chargers, subscriptions and related customer services. It was released earlier this year.

The two companies will collaborate from the beginning of construction to operation of the chargers, while also developing new technologies.

Hyun Joon-yong, the head of LG Uplus’s EV charging business, and Moon Kap, the vice president of Hoban Construction, signed the MOU at the building contractor's headquarters in Seocho District, southern Seoul, on Monday.

“This deal sets a precedent by bringing the best services to Hoban Summit's residents and setting a new direction for EV charger infrastructure,” Hyun said. “Through our cooperation with Hoban Construction, we plan to continuously come up with solutions based on consumer experience and feedback.”

Moon stressed that Hoban aims to “implement new technologies that can make more convenient the daily lives” of its residents.
