Korean swimmers added four more medals at the Hangzhou Asian Games on Wednesday, raising this year’s Asiad swimming medal count to two-digits.

It was yet again Hwang Sun-woo who claimed another gold in the men’s 200-meter freestyle final at Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre Aquatic Sports Arena in Hangzhou, China.

He finished the race with a time of 1 minute and 44.40 seconds, surpassing Pan Zhanle of China who came in second with 1 minute and 45.28 seconds. Lee Ho-joon finished in third with 1 minute and 45.56 seconds and took bronze.

Hwang’s gold was his third medal and second gold at this year’s Asiad. He first claimed bronze in the men’s 100-meter freestyle on Sunday and won gold in the 4x200-meter freestyle relay on Monday alongside Lee Ho-joon, Yang Jae-hoon and Kim Woo-min.

The four also set a new Asian and Asiad record in the process.

A bronze medal followed for Lee Eun-ji, Choi Dong-yeol, Kim Seo-yeong and Hwang in the mixed 4x100-meter medley relay with a time of 3 minutes and 46.78 seconds.

That bronze was Lee Eun-ji’s second bronze of the night, having won a bronze earlier in the women’s 100-meter backstroke final.

It was also the 17-year-old’s third medal in the tournament after her first bronze in the women’s 200-meter backstroke on Tuesday. She became the first Korean swimmer to medal in that discipline since the 1998 Asian Games.

The four medals wrapped up Korea’s schedule in the pool on Wednesday.

They have secured 13 medals — three gold, two silver and eight bronze — so far in the pool at this year’s Asiad, already more than doubling 2018's six medals.

Korea is historically the third-best country in Asian Games swimming, having secured nearly 100 medals.

The Asiad swimming schedule will continue through Friday.
