Asia Content Awards & Global OTT Awards given during BIFF

The winners of the 2023 Asia Contents Awards & Global OTT (over-the-top media service) Awards were announced at the 28th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) Sunday, with the Disney+ series “Moving” sweeping several trophies.

The Asia Content Awards honors outstanding television, OTT and online content from Asia and the awards this year were jointly hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Busan Metropolitan City. The awards were part of the International OTT Festival in Busan which began on Saturday, where the country's hit TV shows, such as Netflix's "The Glory" from Netflix and Disney+'s "Moving," competed for awards.

The Best Creative award, given to the top work of the year, went to “Moving,” the Disney+ series about superheroes starring actors Ryu Seung-ryong, Zo In-sung, Han Hyo-joo and more. Writer Kang Full, who created the original webtoon series on which “Moving” is based and who also penned the script for the series, accepted the award. Ryu also earned the Best Lead Actor award and Lee Jung-ha and Go Youn-jung from “Moving” each secured the Best Newcomer Actor and Actress awards.

‘Weak Hero Class 1,” a Wavve original, won the Best OTT Original award, while Indian show “Scoop” from Netflix won the Best Asian TV Series. Karishma Tanna, the lead of “Scoop,” also won the Best Lead Actress award.

Two reality television shows won the Best Reality & Variety awards together, “Let’s Feast Vietnam” and the highly sensational Korean show “Physical: 100.”

Hsueh Shih-Ling won the Best Supporting Actor award for “Taiwan Crime Stories,” while the Best Supporting Actress award was grabbed by Lim Ji-yeon of “The Glory.” “The Long Season” director Xin Shuang received the Best Director Award, and the Lifetime Achievement Award went to the late Kim Jong-hak, the director behind classic television shows including “Sandglass” (1995) and “The Legend” (2007).

Upcoming shows, including Disney+'s "Vigilante," Netflix's "Cigarette Girl" and Tving's "Running Mate" will be screened at BIFF, and the audience will have the opportunity with some of the shows' directors and cast members.

"We hope the International OTT Festival will become a global event," the Science and ICT ministry said in a release, adding it "will innovate the legal system and provide systematic support for Korean OTT services and content to expand globally and trade without barriers."

The 28th BIFF kicked off on Oct. 4 and continues until Oct. 13.
