Son Heung-min was named Premier League Player of the Month for September on Friday, earning the monthly title for the fourth time in his career.
Son scored six goals in four matches to lead Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham side — which Son also captains — to the top of the Premier League table.
Son is the second Spurs player to take the title this season, with James Maddison claiming August honors. That leaves only Tottenham players with the award so far this campaign.
Son joins some of the biggest names in Premier League history — Alan Shearer, Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp, Frank Lampard, Paul Scholes, Mohamed Salah, Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes and Jamie Vardy — with four Player of the Month awards, a record beaten only by six players.
Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie each claimed the title five times, while Steven Gerrard and Cristiano Ronaldo made it to six. Son’s old teammate Harry Kane is one of two players to get the Player of the Month nod seven times, alongside Sergio Aguero.
Son heard the Player of the Month news while back in Korea on international duty. Korea are set to play Tunisia in an international friendly on Friday evening, with a second game against Vietnam scheduled on Tuesday.
As of press time, Son was set to start Friday’s game on the bench.
