A Kia production plant has suspended operations following a fatal accident at one of its parts subcontractors, according to company officials Wednesday.

According to plant officials, production at the factory in Gwangju, has been suspended since 9 a.m. Tuesday due to a disruption of parts supply from the subcontractor since the accident on Monday.

The accident killed a worker in his 40s. He was run over by a forklift at the worksite. A Kia official said the company's employees are currently on standby to resume production.

The factory produces 2,000 vehicles on a daily basis.

Kia is Korea's second-largest automaker.
