Kyung Hee University announced Tuesday that its College of Hotel & Tourism Management signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Incheon Tourism Organization to develop a new tourism curriculum and offer career training for international students.

The two signed the agreement on Friday, agreeing to work together to develop a new course of study focusing on tourism and MICE, also known as meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions, a type of tourism that involves large groups brought together for events.

The Incheon Tourism Organization will be sending MICE specialists to teach at the university. On-site career training will be offered for the college's students at MICE venues in the city.

Following the MOU signing ceremony, international students at the College of Hotel & Tourism Management toured Songdo Convensia, a conference center in Songdo, Incheon. The students also sat in lectures to learn about how to plan conventions and the necessary marketing strategies.

"The importance of the tourism and MICE industries are growing worldwide, and Incheon is also focusing on those areas, aiming to host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Leaders' Meeting and finding MICE opportunities for the city," Baig Hyeon, CEO of the Incheon Tourism Organization, said.

He added, "Using our expertise in tourism and MICE, we plan to enhance the quality of education for students through the partnership with Kyung Hee University and help foster talented students that can contribute to both Korea and Incheon."
