Daniel Castano joins NC Dinos on one-year, $850,000 deal

The NC Dinos have signed free agent pitcher Daniel Castano on a one-year deal worth up to $850,000.

Castano, 29, will earn $520,000 in guaranteed salary with a $130,000 signing bonus and $200,000 in incentives, according to reports Wednesday.

Castano was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 19th round of the 2016 Major League draft, making his big league debut in 2020 with the Miami Marlins.

He has a career 4.47 ERA with two wins and seven losses across 24 appearances in the majors and a career 3.91 ERA with 42 wins and 28 losses across 120 appearances in the minors.

Castano is the first foreign player to sign with the Dinos this year, stepping into the sizeable shoes left by 2023 KBO MVP Erick Fedde who signed with the Chicago White Sox earlier this month.

The Dinos finished the 2023 KBO season in fourth place, moving up to third after beating the SSG Landers in the first round of playoffs.
