Samsung Electronics logged a record-breaking 1.21 million preorders for its latest Galaxy S24 series in Korea, the electronics company said on Friday.
The company said it secured 1.21 million pre-bookings for the Galaxy S24 series in the past week from Jan. 19 to Thursday, breaking the record held by its predecessor the Galaxy S23 series, which logged 1.09 million preorders during the same period last year.
The Galaxy S24 is Samsung Electronics' first smartphone series equipped with major on-device AI features.
Out of all Galaxy smartphone models, the highest number of preorders made was Galaxy Note 10 series with 1.38 million units in August 2019. However, the preorder period tallied back then was 11 days.
The Galaxy S24 series surpassed the Galaxy Note 10 series on the average number of preorders made per day, with 173,000 units sold compared to the latter’s 125,000, the company said.
The most popular model for the Galaxy S24 series was the Galaxy S24 Ultra model, making up some 60 percent of total preorders, followed by the Galaxy S24 Plus, with 21 percent, and the Galaxy S24 with 19 percent.
In color, titanium black from the Galaxy S24 Ultra model and marble gray from the Galaxy S24 Plus and Galaxy S24 were the most popular.
Customers who preordered their Galaxy S24 series were set to receive and could activate their smartphones from today.
Sales for the Galaxy S24 series will officially launch on Jan. 31.
