BTS’s music video for “Dynamite” surpassed 1.8 billion views on YouTube as of Friday, making it the band’s first music video to reach such numbers.
“Dynamite” was released on Aug. 21, 2020, as BTS’s first English release. The song is based on the disco-pop genre and sings positive messages of hope.
The track surpassed 1.8 billion views on YouTube at around 3:06 a.m., on Friday, according to the band's agency BigHit Music the same day.
“Dynamite” has been a massive hit since its release, making BTS the first K-pop artist to top Billboards’ Hot 100 chart. The song also remained on the chart for 32 weeks and topped Korea’s Melon chart for three consecutive months — a first in Melon’s history. The song was also nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance on the 63rd Grammys.
“Dynamite” has been a hit on YouTube too. The music video surpassed 10 million views merely 20 minutes after its release on Aug. 21 and took less than 24 hours to reach 100 million views, making it the fastest YouTube video to reach such numbers at the time of its release. “Dynamite” surpassed 1 billion views on April 12, 2021.
There are a total of 39 BTS music videos that have surpassed 100 million views as of 2024, including “Boy With Luv” (2019) with 1.7 billion views, “DNA” (2017) with 1.5 billion views, “MIC Drop (Steve Aoki Remix)” (2017) at 1.4 billion views.
