Passengers board a bus near Seoul Station on Monday as public service costs rise, despite the government's attempt to freeze such fees.

According to Statistics Korea, January’s price for public service rose 2.2 percent on year, the biggest leap in 27 months since October 2021, which recorded a 6.1 percent rise.

Bus fares had the highest on-month contribution to inflation, followed by fees for taxis, outpatient medical treatment, subways, dentistry, hospitalization and sewage.
