국대 감독 고르기 돌입한 축구협회, K리그 감독 빼 갈 가능성 여전

The Korean national football team could still swipe a manager from the K League despite the outcry from Korean football fans as the Korea Football Association (KFA) on Tuesday announced it is beginning candidate interviews but did not commit to staying out of the domestic coaching pool.

팬들의 격렬한 항의에도 불구하고 축구 대표팀이 K리그에서 감독을 빼돌릴 가능성은 여전하다. 지난 화요일 (4월 2일) 감독 후보 면접을 시작한 대한축구협회는 후보군에서 국내 감독을 제외한다는 약속은 하지 않았다.

KFA National Team Committee Head Chung Hae-sung said Tuesday that the KFA will start interviewing 11 managers — four Korean and seven foreign managers — and appoint a permanent manager by early or mid-May.

정해성 대한축구협회 전력강화위원장은 이날 협회가 감독 11명(국내 감독 4명, 외국 감독 7명)을 대상으로 면접을 진행할 것이고 5월 초 혹은 5월 중순에 정식 감독을 선임할 것이라고 말했다.

The national team manager post has been vacant since the KFA sacked ex-manager Jurgen Klinsmann in February.

국가대표 감독 자리는 지난 2월 대한축구협회가 위르겐 클린스만 전 감독을 경질한 이래 여전히 공석이다.

Chung’s remarks, at the KFA House in central Seoul, came despite the KFA having faced backlash in February for considering appointing K League team managers like Ulsan HD boss Hong Myungbo or FC Seoul manager Kim Gi-dong, who were reportedly on the KFA’s radar after they axed Klinsmann.

정 위원장이 서울 축구 회관에서 한 발언은 지난 2월 축구협회가 국내 감독을 대표 감독으로 검토한다고 해 반발을 사고도 나온 것이다. 클린스만을 자른 이후 협회는 울산 HD 홍명보 감독 또는 FC 서울 김기동 감독 등을 후보로 고려하고 있는 것으로 알려졌다.

Ulsan’s official fan club even protested in front of the KFA House, saying that Hong was not an option, amid reports the KFA was considering him for the job.

축구협회가 홍 감독을 고려하고 있다는 보도가 나오자 울산 공식 팬클럽은 축구회관 앞에서 그는 선택지가 될 수 없다고 시위를 벌였다.

The KFA reversed its initial decision to immediately hire a permanent manager and instead appointed U-23 national team manager Hwang Sunhong in the interim. The KFA said it would nominate a permanent manager by early May.

축구협회는 정식 감독을 즉시 고용하겠다는 당초의 결정을 번복하고 대신 23세 이하(U-23) 대표팀 황선홍 감독을 임시로 선임했다. 협회는 당시 5월 초쯤 정식 감독을 지명할 수 있을 것이라고 했다.

Hwang departed the senior team after taking charge of two 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Thailand in March, picking up a 1-1 draw and a 3-0 win.
