K-pop rock band DAY6 filled southern Seoul’s Jamsil Indoor Arena over the weekend in its “Welcome to the Show” concert, once again demonstrating its unique presence in the local music scene by performing on a circular stage in the center of the venue.

DAY6 held the “Welcome to the Show” concert from Friday to Sunday at the Jamsil venue, entertaining 33,000 fans over three concerts after its previous Christmas concert held last December. "Welcome to the Show" is the title of the lead track from "Fourever," the latest album by DAY6 released on March 18.

The quartet’s bold choice to use a circular stage highlighted that each bandmate gets an equal share of time to flaunt their vocal abilities, as opposed to standard rock bands that tend to have a single vocalist as the “front man” of the whole group.

The decision to place the stage in the middle of the venue made the band visible from any seat and increased audience member capacity. When excluding seating with a limited view, the venue usually sells up to 8,000 tickets, but by planting the stage at the center, the band was able to invite over 11,000 fans per concert.

The stage also spun around from time to time so that fans from different spots could get a view of every member during the three-hour show.

“We came to this venue in 2019 but we’re back in 360 degrees,” Young K said to the crowd. “This means we could have more of you come to the concert. This is all thanks to you. Hearing your voices here, like this, is just so beautiful.”

The band opened the concert with its latest lead track "Welcome to the Show," and followed up with other tracks from its recent EP, "Fourever," including “Happy,” “The Power of Love” and “Get The Hell Out.” DAY6 then filled the arena with some of the biggest hits from its discography including “You Were Beautiful” (2017), “Sweet Chaos” (2019), “Man in a movie” (2017) and “Time of Our Life” (2019).

An uncommon example of a K-pop “idol” with a rock band theme, DAY6 has been famed for its portrayal of different emotions that young people encounter in their lives, both the good and bad. But the band has also been making a mark with what’s being referred to as yeokjuhaeng.

Yeokjuhaeng literally refers to driving in reverse. In music, it refers to songs that climb back up the music charts years after their release. DAY6 was blessed with a surprise yeokjuhaeng when “You Were Beautiful” suddenly shot up the charts in 2020, three years after its 2017 release. This year, it experienced the phenomenon again when “Time of Our Life” climbed the charts this January, five years after release.

“You look so beautiful singing along to the top of your voices,” Wonpil told the crowd after bursting out into tears while singing “Happy.” “It’s not that I’m sad, but I feel sad because I feel so overwhelmed. Life isn’t easy, but we’re all doing so well. It’s the very reason we sing and write our songs — to make you feel just that little bit better.”

“Fourever” came as the band's first album in three years since DAY6 dropped its seventh EP "The Book of Us: Negentropy — Chaos swallowed up in love" in April 2021, before members started their military duties. DAY6’s previous Christmas show was the first time in four years that the band held a concert; the last performance was in December 2019.

DAY6 debuted under JYP Entertainment in 2015 as the agency’s first rock band. The band currently consists of four members who are all vocalists as well as instrumentalists — guitarist Sungjin; bassist and guitarist Young K; keyboardist Wonpil; and drummer Dowoon. It is known for hit songs including “Congratulations” (2015), “You Were Beautiful” (2017), “Time of Our Life”(2019) and “Zombie” (2020).
