The Cadillac Lyriq, General Motor’s first purely Ultium platform-based EV, boasts a battery capacity that can cover the distance from Seoul to Busan on a single charge.

The automaker opened preorders for the luxury sedan in Korea from May 23, priced at 106.96 million won ($78,000). Customer deliveries are set to begin in July.

On a single full charge, the Lyriq achieves a driving range of up to 465 kilometers (289 miles), which GM Korea said is enough to cover the distance from the capital of Seoul to the southeastern port city of Busan.

The EV is equipped with a 102-kilowatt battery pack, using NCMA (nickel-cobalt-manganese-aluminum) cathodes arranged in 12 modules. It also supports 190-kilowatt-hour fast charging and can travel about 120 kilometers upon charging for 10 minutes.

Cadillac has meticulously crafted every detail of the Lyriq’s exterior and interior design, reinforcing the brand’s luxurious image that perhaps justifies its premium price tag.

The rear design, inspired by the brand's heritage models, features rear lamps that start under the rear window, extend along the C-pillar and connecting to the roof. The straight rear lamps continue to the lower skirt, creating a unique visual facade for the Lyriq.

The interior features a 33-inch curved diagonal LED display, and materials such as aluminum, wood and Nappa leather, envelope the vehicle.

"Cadillac has channeled all of its brand capabilities into the Lyriq to once again realize its initial slogan from 122 years ago, ‘The Standard of the World’ in the EV era, culminating in the creation of another iconic model,” said GM Korea’s Yoon Myong-ok, chief marketing officer and head of communications. “The Lyriq’s value has already been recognized, ranking first in sales among luxury brands in the North American EV market in the first quarter this year. We hope domestic customers will experience the new level of luxury EV that the Lyriq offers.”

The Lyriq is available in five colors — argent silver metallic, stellar black metallic, crystal white tricoat, opulent blue metallic and radiant red tricoat.

The brand has renovated its integrated brand space in southern Seoul’s Gangnam District into “Atelier Lyriq” that will be open to the public from Friday for prospective customers wanting to view the vehicle in person.
