Presidential security staffer referred to prosecution for suspected sexual assault

An employee of the Presidential Security Service has been referred to the prosecution for alleged sexual assault against a female passenger inside a subway train, police said Monday.

The employee, whose identity has been withheld, faces suspicions of touching a woman he didn't know while riding a subway train in Seoul in April.

The person denied the allegations, but the police verified them through CCTV footage from the subway train.

The Seoul Subway Police said the individual has been recently referred to the prosecution on charges of sexual assault in a crowded place for further investigation and potential indictment.

The presidential office expressed "regrets" over the incident and said disciplinary procedures will be carried out in accordance with the final investigation results.
