The annual Hanbok Expo, featuring over 100 Korean traditional dress brands, is slated to kick off Friday at Dongdaemun Design Plaza in Jung District, central Seoul.

Jointly helmed by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Craft and Design Foundation, this year's event will offer discounts of up to 80 percent for 112 different hanbok (Korean traditional dress) brands, the Culture Ministry said through Wednesday's press report.

It will also host two exhibitions: one helmed by nonprofit Arumjigi that showcases rare hanbok styles throughout Korean history; and the other by traditional culture research institute Onjium, which will display more modern and practical hanbok designs.

Thirty hanbok selected from the Culture Ministry's Hanbok Design Contest this year, as well as some 100 hanbok-inspired uniforms that were developed last year, will be on display as well, along with booths for visitors to try on the traditional dresses.

Other events at the expo include a hanbok fashion show illustrating the clothing's evolution through media art, craft stations to make traditional brooms and envelopes and educational sessions to learn about hanbok from professionals.

The 2024 Hanbok Expo runs through Aug. 12. Those who make early bird registrations, open now through Wednesday, will be able to enter the event for free. More information about the hanbok expo is available through its official website.
