Hwang In-beom scores first goal for Feyenoord in 2-1 win over Twente

Korean midfielder Hwang In-beom scored his first goal for Feyenoord on Sunday, leading his side to a 2-1 win over Twente and marking his first goal contribution for Feyenoord ahead of joining the Korean national team.
 
After Ayase Ueda opened the scoring for the home team in the 28th minute at Feyenoord Stadium in the Netherlands, Hwang fired a shot from outside the penalty area in the 43rd minute to double the lead.

Hwang’s goal comes in his third league match for Feyenoord, having joined the team last month after the 2024-25 Eredivisie season began.
 
The goal is a bright sign ahead of the FIFA international break, during which he will join the Korean national team that faces Jordan on Oct. 10 and Iraq on Oct. 15 in the third round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.  
 
The Feyenoord midfielder is a regular national team pick with 62 caps. He is a classic box-to-box number eight, possessing a talent for both defense and advancing the ball up the pitch.
 
He has also been a consistent pick for Feyenoord since joining the team, having played a full 90 minutes in the past five fixtures across all competitions.
 
It only took Hwang one league match to leave his mark at Feyenoord, as he made it into the Eredivisie Team of the Week after playing his first match on Sept. 22.  
 
Not content with one honor, he also won Feyenoord’s Player of the Month on Saturday.
 
Hwang has a busy schedule this season, as he not only has World Cup qualifiers with Korea but also Champions League action to contend with at Feyenoord.  
 
This is his second consecutive season competing in the Champions League, where he made his debut with Red Star Belgrade last season, picking up a goal and an assist against then-defending champions Manchester City.
 
Feyenoord has already suffered two losses in two group stage matches in the revamped Champions League, where each team in the group stage plays eight games instead of six.
 
On the national team front, Hwang played in the last two World Cup qualifiers under new manager Hong Myung-bo, which resulted in one win and one draw. Korea now sits in second place in the six-team table in Group B, where the top two teams directly qualify for the World Cup.

Hwang joins the national squad as one of the most experienced players in the absence of Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min, who is ruled out due to injury.  
 
However, fellow veteran midfielder Lee Jae-sung of Mainz 05 is in the squad alongside key midfielders like Lee Kang-in of Paris Saint-Germain and Hwang Hee-chan of Wolverhampton Wanderers.
 
Korea faces Jordan at Amman International Stadium in Jordan on Oct. 10.
