Samsung Electronics once again emphasized the importance of technology leadership in the face of the AI era at the 55th anniversary of the company's establishment on Friday.
“The paradigm that will lead the next 10 years is AI, and while AI has passed through a period of bubbles and uncertainty, we are now entering an ‘AI commercialization’ era, where unimaginable changes will become a commonality,” said Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman and CEO Han Jong-hee in a message co-issued by him and chip division head Jun Young-hyun.
Around 400 employees and executives participated in the event, which acknowledged employees with exceptional performances.
“This change should not be limited to specific products or business areas but should extend to our work methods and the discovery of new growth engines.”
Lee further encouraged the employees to strive to strengthen the company’s leadership in core technology to ensure “flawless” quality competitiveness.
“Without change, no innovation or growth can occur. Let’s build a robust organization capable of leading the future through change and renewal.”
The message comes a day after the electronics giant announced dismal third quarter earnings. Despite posting a triple-digit surge in operating profit from the year before and record-high quarterly revenue, the chipmaker’s earnings fell short of market expectations.
This led Jun to issue an unprecedented apology in early October after the company announced its preliminary third quarter earnings.
The tech giant currently lags behind in the AI chip race compared to crosstown rival SK hynix, which is already supplying high bandwidth memory 3E chips to AI goliath Nvidia.
Samsung Chairman Lee Jae-yong was absent from the ceremony at the company’s Suwon headquarters in Gyeonggi. Since taking on his leadership role in 2022, Lee has not attended the annual ceremony.
On the same day, Samsung Electro-Mechanics held its 51st anniversary ceremony at its Suwon plant, recognizing outstanding employees who changed its corporate culture.
Samsung Display also held its 12th anniversary ceremony at its headquarters in Yongin, Gyeonggi.
