The Hyatt Regency Incheon, Incheon’s landmark five-star hotel, will be rebranded as the Grand Hyatt Incheon on Sept. 1 ahead of the 17th Asian Games.

The sports event takes place from Sept. 19 at the port city of Incheon.

In order to rebrand the existing hotel, an extensive renovation has been ongoing over the past 18 months.

With the revamp, a new West Tower equipped with 500 guest rooms is being installed. The new tower structure will be connected to the existing East Tower via a sky bridge.

In total, the newly branded Grand Hyatt Incheon will have more than 1,000 rooms and will be the largest hotel outside of North America.

“Having worked with Hyatt successfully for more than 11 years, we are delighted to extend our relationship, to expand the hotel and turn it into a brand new property in the city,” said Heather Cho, president of KAL Hotel Network, in a press release.

The company has been in partnership with Hyatt Hotels & Resorts in operating the Hyatt Regency Incheon.

“We believe the new Grand Hyatt Incheon will continue to provide world-class accommodation and meeting offerings as well as the highest levels of service,” Cho added.

The Hyatt Regency Incheon has been a top accommodation option since it opened in September 2003 as it is located within walking distance from Incheon International Airport.

The Grand Hyatt Incheon aims to target short-term as well as long-term travelers with more comfortable rooms equipped with kitchens and other amenities.

The Hyatt Regency and Grand Hyatt are five-star hotel brands but have slightly different characteristics.

“If the Regency brand is more modern-oriented, the Grand brand is literally grand in terms of scale,” said Han Bo-yeon, a PR official at the Grand Hyatt Seoul.
