The Seriousness of Foreigner"s Aids

As of the end of June, 89 foreign workers have been expelled due to their positive test results to the HIV virus. The Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW) announced on September 15 that five foreign workers were expelled from January to June in 1998.
MOHW said that many foreign workers came to Korea illegally and they did not receive official physical examinations. According to regulations, foreign workers should have 'Certificate of HIV Negative' and receive physical examination every six months. However, foreign workers staying illegally can get around this regulation.
The number of AIDS infected persons is 811 (Females; 104) as of the end of June. The number of persons infected through sexual intercourse was recorded at 696 and those from blood transfusions reached 21.
