Light Aircraft Pilot Succeeds in Around the World Voyage

'It grows light in the eastern part of the sky. It is just before Korean territory. Thirty seven days of around the world travel is going to be finished in spite of various difficulties. Oh, it's the Korean national anthem on the radio. It's been a long time since I heard it. It's my homeland.'
Tears silently fell from his eyes. He is Lee Ju Hak(photo). At last, he did it. He became the first oriental to successfully travel around the world in a light aircraft. Lee has flown 42,000 km over 37 days.
Lee crossed the Pacific Ocean from Hawaii to San Francisco withstanding drowsiness for 18 hours. Above the Atlantic Ocean, he ran into ferocious, big black clouds. It was cold enough to freeze bones. Fuel was too insufficient to avoid the ominous black area. There was no way out.
Thunder fell beside the craft. He turned off his navigation and communications equipment. It was as dark as coal outside. The aircraft was shaking and rising to 13,000 feet. 'If I arrive at my next stop, I will go back home. Do not abandon me, God.' He repeated this prayer a hundred times.
Lee's flight, sponsored by JoongAng Ilbo to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the foundation of Korea's government and the 33rd of the newspaper, came to its end at 8:00 a.m. October 27. Lee said, 'I'd like to share this glory with all who love the sky.'
