Kimbo Scholarship Fund Seeking Korean Students

The Kimbo fund, a U.S.-based scholarship fund founded by a Korean, plans to award more Koreans with 'Kimbo scholarships' beginning this year in cooperation with JoongAng Ilbo. This fund has given 1,000 dollars each to 60 Korean-American high school and college students since 1988.
The founder is 70 year-old Kim Kun Yong, who owns 'Kimbo Color', the biggest film processing laboratory in San Francisco. In the late 1950s, Kim was a teacher in Korea and left for the U.S. to study advanced education. However, he could not continue to attend schoo because of a shortage of money.
After that, Kim accumulated a large fortune through hard work and determination. He started the scholarship fund with 1.8 million dollars. He heard that the situation in Korea had become worse and decided to give scholarships to students in Korea as well. This year, 20 students will receive scholarships and the number will be increased in the future.
