President Kim Arrives in Hong Kong

President Kim Dae Jung arrived in Hong Kong on November 19 after the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation(APEC)summit meeting concluded.
In an interview with Korean correspondents in Hong Kong, Kim said, 'Throughout my lengthy time outside Korea visiting other nations, I again ascertained that economic restructuring efforts are the only way to steadily build up our country.'
After the interview, he participated in a Korea-Hong Kong businessmen reception at the Hong Kong Convention Center where he emphasized mutual financial cooperation and trade in the opening address.
Kim also met with Hong Kong leader Tung Chee Hwa at the former Governor's House and discussed ways to enlarge investment.
In the meeting, Kim suggested they conclude a currency swap pact recognizing that Chinese capital was not coming into the Korean market.
Seducing any Chinese investment, Kim promised, 'For quite a long time Korea did not allow foreign capital including Chinese money to flow freely into the country, however it is changing and Korea will welcome investment at anytime.'
Hong Kong is the final destination for President Kim's 10 day foreign trip. He arrives back in Seoul on November 20.
