Defense Ministry Seeks Severe Punishment in Military Accidents

The Ministry of Defense (MOD) announced on December 9 that it sent letters of warning to the heads of the Army and Air Force concerning responsibility for the recent, successive military accidents that occurred. The letter urged severe punishment for those responsible in any way for the accidents.
MOD sent a letter of warning to General Kim Dong Shin, the Army Chief of Staff, that stated a committee be formed comprised of the division chief, Lieutenant General Yoo, and the brigade chief, Colonel Son, to investigate and punish those involved in the explosion at the Noi Jong Division that killed three soldiers.
Regarding the accidental launching of a Nike surface-to-air missile in Inchon, the MOD sent a similar letter to Park Chun Taek, the Air Force Chief of Staff in which was also stated that an investigation committee be formed.
