Acid Rain in Seoul and Ulsan

Acid rain descended on the Korean Peninsula, and, combined with a build-up of low-lying ozone, it made Seoul and Ulsan a hot and polluted place to live.
According to the statistics compiled by the Ministry of Environment and released on May 27, during the month of April, Seoul's precipitation marked an average pH level of 5.3 - less than 5.6 pH is considered acid rain - while Ulsan recorded a far worse pH level of 4.6.
While ozone in the upper atmosphere, referred to as the ozone layer, serves as an absorbant of harmful ultraviolet rays and is therefore highly beneficial, ozone in the lower atmosphere is a harmful irritant and pollutant.
Ozone is deemed harmful pollution when it exceeds 0.08 parts per million; there were over a hundred such incidents that occurred in Korea during April partially owing to the above-normal hot weather.
