Largest Ever Reshuffle of Prosecutors Announced

The Ministry of Justice (MOJ) has announced an unprecedently large-scale reshuffle of prosecutors on June 6. The redistribution becomes effective from June 9.
The Head of the MOJ's Prosecution Bureau, Shin Seung Nam, from the ninth national examination, is promoted to Deputy Prosecutor-General and the Head of MOJ's Correction Bureau, Kim Kyoung Han, from 11th national examination, is posted to the position of Deputy Minister of Justice. The order of annual examination, which reflects the grade and the hierarchical structure, is important in Korea.
Eight prosecutors will be promoted to the level of the high prosecutors' head office, while thirteen will be raised to the district prosecutors' head office level. This redistribution is the most far-reaching since the foundation of the prosecution.
All seven prosecutors from the eighth national examination, apart from the Prosecutor General, Park Soon Yong, resigned voluntarily.
MOJ emphasized that it disregarded regions and the order of examination in a departure from tradition.
The Head of the Violent Crime Department of Supreme Prosecutors' Office, Lim Hwi Yoon, becomes the Chief of Seoul District Prosecutors' Office, the first person from the Cholla Province posted to that seat during the last thirty years, while Lee Jong Chan from Kyongsang Province is promoted to the Head of the Central Investigation Department of Supreme Prosecutors' Office, another key position.
