The government announced Monday that the torrential rains around Seoul, Kyonggi and Kangwon provinces have rendered 33 people dead or missing so far.
It placed 100,000 residents living in in the vicinity of Seoul's Chungrang river, Kyonggi Province's Dongduchon river, Kangwon's Hwachon dam and in Cholwon county on emergency alert, due to danger of flooding.
In case of Dongduchon, in the northern part of Kyonggi Province, the central river burst its banks after heavy rains in a short space of time, and 5,000 people were moved to community buildings and churches.
As of Monday afternoon, Seoul's Chungrang river marked 18.44 meters, way over the danger line limit of 17.84 meters, causing 90,000 people living in Dobong, Nowon, Songbook, Kangbook, Songdong and Dongdaemun to be put on alert.
Another 5,000 people in Kangwon Province's Hwachon dam area are ready to move to places of safety.
The administration said the three consecutive days of rain have caused 14,258 storm victims to lose 6,580 houses, especially around northern areas in Kyonggi province.
