[LETTERS TO THE EDITOR]Refund rule for waste is neglected
I visited a shopping mall in Dongdaemun with my children last weekend. After looking around, we got hungry and found a food court. While we ate, my children wondered about the refunding 100 won (8 cents) policy, in which customers get 100 won back if they return any plastic cups. I remembered seeing on the news that the policy is for protecting the environment by preventing waste. Also, I explained to my children that plastic goods are hazardous and should be recycled.
I led my children to a counter where I gave back our plastic cups, asking for refunds. But a cashier at the counter said that he did not know about the policy and so couldn’t give us refunds.
The employee was not to blame. He was not trained and it’s not likely that other customers demanded refunds. All of us should be blamed.
