Lee and Bush will have a meeting at Camp David

Lee's busy schedule begins with meeting American business leaders at a Korean exhibition and a visit to the New York Stock Exchange. He will meet with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and a group of Korean-Americans before heading to Washington, D.C. Wednesday.

There he will meet with senior U.S. administrators, including Vice President Dick Cheney, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, U.S. Trade Representative Susan Schwab, U.S. experts on the Korean Peninsula and some American lawmakers.

When President Lee and First Lady Kim Yoon-ok land on the helicopter pad at the presidential retreat Camp David on Friday, local time, U.S. President George W. Bush and his wife Laura will cruise out to greet them in a golf cart. It's the first time that a South Korean president has been invited to the rustic getaway, the Blue House explained.

The foursome will drive back to the house in the cart, a favor diplomatic sources in Washington said is Bush's way of showing courtesy to his closest friends. The sources also said that the invitation to the 125-acre resort means that Bush is looking to strengthen the alliance between Korea and the United States.

Bush invited Junichiro Koizumi, the former Japanese prime minister, to Camp David in 2001, the first year Koizumi became prime minister. The two later became good friends. Bush also used Camp David as the venue for meeting French President Nicolas Sarkozy for the first time last August.

Lee's first night in Camp David will start with a private dinner for the presidents and their wives. The next morning they will stroll around the grounds, which feature a pond, outdoor pool, golf course, tennis court and gym, before holding the official summit meeting. A joint press conference will immediately follow.
