Dong-jun, Clara to carry torch
Boy band ZE:A’s Dong-jun and actress Clara were chosen yesterday to carry the torch for the upcoming 2014 Incheon Asian Games, according to local media.
They were appointed by Tissot, a Swiss watch brand and the event’s official time keeper. Clara was selected for her healthy and bubbly image, while Dong-jun was chosen for his athleticism, which came through several times on local entertainment shows, media reports say.
Dong-jun earned his nickname “sport idol” through numerous TV programs, including MBC’s “Idol Star Athletics Championship,” which aired earlier this year. Dong-jun is known to have developed his sporting prowess through years of soccer and gymnastics.
Clara has a black belt in taekwondo. She will run an estimated 200 meters (219 yards), spread from Dong District to Seo District in Incheon next Thursday. Dong-jun will follow by covering 277 meters in Bupyeong District, Incheon, next Friday.
The Asian Games, the 17th of their kind, are scheduled to launch next Friday and will last until Oct. 4, with 439 events in 36 disciplines.
