ScreenX theaters set sales record

Korea’s largest multiplex cinema chain CGV’s ScreenX theaters - which are equipped with three wide screens - saw a record four million visitors last year, three times more than the previous year.

According to the company on Wednesday, one fourth of those who saw movies in ScreenX theaters were there to watch the Freddie Mercury biopic “Bohemian Rhapsody,” which was the only film to reach one million viewers at the ScreenX theaters.

The total box office gross at the special theaters reached $40 million last year - four times more than the previous year.

Meanwhile, other Hollywood movies that were released in these theaters, including action flicks “Black Panther,” “Ant-Man and the Wasp,” “The Meg” and “Aquaman,” each drew over 300,000 people to theaters.

There are currently 195 ScreenX theaters open in 17 different countries, including England, Hungary, Spain, Israel, France and Canada. They are also set to land in the United States and China soon.
