Hwang to star in KBS drama

Actress Hwang Soo-jung, the 39-year-old actress who has endured a rocky career, made a comeback at a press conference for the drama “For the Sake of Son” after four years and nine months since her previous drama series, “Salt Doll” (2007). The new four-part KBS drama will air on Dec. 4.

Hwang left the entertainment scene in 2001 when she was arrested for doing drugs with her lover, a married man. She was sentenced to one year and six months in jail but was released on bail after 78 days.

When asked what she’s been doing since the 2007 series, Hwang said, “I’ve lived an exceptionally normal life and featured in a few films.” The actress added, “People may be surprised to find out that I was still acting in the last few years. All the films I featured in were independent, which means they weren’t released at the theater. Nevertheless I’ve been acting consistently.”

Her new work is a four-part drama about a relationship that blossoms between a detective and a North Korean spy who is trying to save her son, who is held hostage at a detention center.
