2NE1 named best female group of 2011

Girl band 2NE1 was named the best female group of 2011 by the K-pop portal, allkpop.com. The Hallyu-focused Web site announced the results of an online vote on Jan. 26, in which over three million K-pop fans worldwide participated. Voters cast their ballots in 10 categories to determine last year’s best acts and songs.

“We want to thank all of our fans and allkpop.com. We hope you will continue to support and love us and we wish you all the best in the year 2012,” the band said in a thank-you video available on the K-pop Web site.

The winning girl group is planning to kick off their Japanese promotions in February.

In addition, Super Junior was awarded for the best song of the year, best choreography and best male group. IU and Kim Hyun-joong were also recognized by allkpop.com.

The pioneering American portal site offers Hallyu content to global fans of Korean music and celebrities. The Web site was launched in 2007 and although based in the United States, it manages to attract more traffic than any other such site based in Korea. The Web site is significant as it is one of the few K-pop Web sites reporting entertainment news in English. More than four million readers visit the site on a monthly basis.
