Lee Joon-gi was greeted by more than 2,000 fans and the press on the day of his release from the Army’s public relations division in Yongsan District, central Seoul.

Lee was officially discharged at 8 a.m. yesterday and spoke briefly to the press about his time as a soldier and what he hoped to do next.

“Thank you for coming out to see me on this frosty morning. I was so touched when so many people came to see me at my enlistment ceremony, and again I’m so touched by all your support,” Lee said.

When asked about his 22 months as an army officer, Lee said that he came to be known as a born soldier.

“Many of my comrades thought that I’d ask to stay on in the Army, but unfortunately today I’m being released,” he said.

The Hallyu actor also said that although there were hard times, he had lots of fond memories from his time serving the nation.

He also took the time to express his gratitude to the senior officers who he said “looked after” him.
