The Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office said yesterday Jang was called in Wednesday night and charged with illegal use of the narcotic propofol.
Prosecutors allege that Jang made trips to cosmetic surgery and facial care clinics and opted for surgery so the drug would be prescribed.
Authorities confiscated seven medical charts from clinics in Cheongdam-dong, southern Seoul.
Meanwhile, Jang claimed she needed the drugs as pain relievers.
CJeS Entertainment declined to comment.
“We’ll issue a stance later on,” said a spokesperson for the agency, adding that Jang signed with the company four months ago and the alleged drug use would have occurred before then.
Jang made her debut in 2003 with the MBC sitcom “Nonstop.” Most recently she appeared in the MBC drama “I Miss You,” alongside JYJ’s Park Yu-chun who is also represented by CJeS.
