Audition program gets the hookSurvival auditions programs, in the mode of “American Idol,” may be popular in Korea, but MBC is pulling the plug on its version, “The Greatest Birth,” after just three seasons, according to local media reports.
“After discussions, we’ve decided not to produce the fourth season,” an MBC official reportedly said.
Unlike its competitors, like Mnet’s “Superstar K” or SBS’s “K-Pop Star,” “Greatest Birth” has not been able to produce any notable stars, and it suffered from low ratings.
“Superstar K” discovered Kim Ye-rim, Roy Kim and Busker Busker, while “K-Pop Star” give birth to Akdong Musician and Lee Hi, all successful performers today.
In contrast, the winner of season three of “Greatest Birth,” Han Dong-geun, has not even made a debut yet, four months after the program ended.
The last episode of “Greatest Birth” pulled in just a 7.5 rating, compared to 12.5 for “K-Pop Star.”
