Goofy group added to techno fest

New girl group Crayon Pop, which has risen from obscurity in recent weeks thanks to a very odd music video for its song “Bar Bar Bar,” has been added to the lineup at the electronic music festival “Global Gathering Korea 2013,” according to Fortune Entertainment yesterday.

It is the first time for the group to perform for a festival and an usual move for an event that features international dance music acts such as Fatboy Slim and Zombie Nation.

“The group has inspired people to create plenty of parodies of its music video and now that their single is No. 1 on local music charts we’re in the midst of ‘Crayon Pop’ syndrome,” said Fortune Entertainment.

“For the festival, Crayon Pop will present some special staging, collaborating with local DJ teams.”

Crayon Pop’s video for “Bar Bar Bar” features the six-member girl group performing ridiculously simple and strange dances while wearing protective helmets. It has rung up more than 1.5 million views on YouTube since it was released on June 23.

The DJ teams who will work with Crayon Pop have not been selected yet, but the festival organizer plans to invite DJs to remix versions of the group’s big hit, “Bar Bar Bar,” and have netizens vote for the one they like best.
