The biannual music festival held by the popular variety show “Infinite Challenge” on MBC ended with strong ratings on Saturday. The show pulled in a 16.8 rating, according to Nielsen Korea, up 1.8 points from the previous week.
This year, the music festival attracted 35,000 fans to its location at Pyeonghwa-Nuri Park in Imjingak, Gyeonggi Province, northwest of Seoul.
Since the festival started in 2007, it has grown into one of the biggest and most popular music events of the year, teaming up seven members of the variety show with seven music groups or other solo performers to create their own music.
This year’s show featured a diverse range of musicians, from indie bands like Jang Kiha and the Faces and Rose Motel to K-pop stars like Kim C, BoA and G-Dragon.
Right after the music festival, the songs created by the teams were released on the local music portals and instantly shot to the top of the download and streaming charts. For example, as of press time, the eight songs of “Infinite Challenge” occupy the top eight spots on MelOn, a major music portal.
