Choir show aims to create ‘Harmony’

KBS plans to make a program out of a choir competition, after the format proved to be popular when celebrities sang in groups on its entertainment show “Qualifications of Men” in 2011.

In the previous program, comedians, actors and actresses who barely had any prior experience in singing got together to make a choir and competed with other amateur singing groups.

The new program is named “Harmony” and will be split into four episodes when it goes on the air on March, according to the broadcaster yesterday.

Any amateur choir group can apply to be a part of the program.

The broadcaster is accepting videos and application forms until Dec. 25 through its website. The list of the groups that passed the first round will be announced online on Dec. 28.

The second round will be held in major cities, during which the groups will be asked to sing in person next month in Seoul, Busan, Daegu, Gwangju, Daejeon, Wonju and other cities. The main competition will be held on Feb. 22 at KBS Hall in Yeouido, western Seoul.

The winning team will receive 30 million won ($28,300) in prize money, while the group in the second place will get 15 million won. Third place will receive 10 million won.
