‘Respond’ finale hits highest rating

TV drama “Respond 1994” on cable channel tvN completed its run Saturday with its 21st episode.

The final episode marked an 11.9 percent audience rate on average according to Nielsen Korea, and it even went up to 14.3 percent while the drama was screening - the highest rate ever marked among any drama aired on a cable channel, tvN operator CJ E&M said yesterday.

The drama, which was produced after the channel made its show “Respond 1997,” broke the commonly held belief that no sequel can be better than the original.

“The drama broke the sophomore jinx and created another ‘Respond’ series syndrome this year,” said CJ E&M.

Fans overseas have shown their excitement over the series; the previous “Respond 1997” has been sold to 19 different countries. The second series has been sold to Hong Kong, Thailand, Cambodia and the United States. Other countries have also shown an interest in buying the rights to air the show.
