Spaniards to face off in men’s clay court final

Nicolas Almagro and Fernando Verdasco set up an all-Spanish final in the U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship.

Fourth-seeded Verdasco beat Colombia’s Santiago Giraldo 6-4, 7-5 on Saturday, and third-seeded Almagro advanced when American Sam Querrey pulled out because of a back injury. Almagro, a 12-time winner on the ATP World Tour who is ranked 20th in the world, reached the final for the second year straight. He lost last year’s final to John Isner. Verdasco has five career titles, all on clay.

Twin brothers Bob and Mike Bryan won the doubles title for the fifth time, beating Verdasco and David Marrero 4-6, 6-4, 11-9. They have won four straight tournaments and have 97 ATP Tour titles, 36 more than any other team.
