Local streaming service Tving is collaborating with Naver Webtoon to create a music show.
The show is tentatively titled “Webtoon OST Audition Project,” which Tving and Naver Webtoon will co-plan and co-produce.
Using Intellectual Property (IP) from Naver Webtoon, the characters from various narratives will audition using soundtracks from webtoons. The show will use motion captures and extended reality (XR) to animate the two-dimensional characters.
Producers from cable channel Mnet who were behind hit audition shows such as “Super Star K” (2009-16) “Show Me the Money” (2012-) and “Street Woman Fighter” (2021) and digital entertainment company Sandbox will co-produce the show.
“For the first time globally, we are attempting to infuse the format of music auditions with webtoons, which will offer a distinctive experience to the webtoon fans as well as Tving subscribers,” a spokesperson from the Tving said in a statement.
The show will be released exclusively on Tving in the latter half of this year as a Tving original program.
