Kim Jae-youl nominated to be president of International Skating Union

Kim Jae-youl, former president of the Korea Skating Union (KSU), was nominated as a candidate for International Skating Union (ISU) presidency. Kim is currently serving as president of the Samsung Global Strategy Group.
The KSU announced Friday its nomination of Kim, who has served on the ISU Council since 2016. Kim served as KSU president from 2011 to 2016.
The KSU cited Kim’s experience in sports administration and contributions to local skating as the reason for the nomination. He also served as executive vice president of 2018 PyeongChang Olympic Organizing Committee, vice president of Korea Olympic Committee, and IOC Coordination Commission Member for the 2022 Beijing Olympic Games.
During his term as the KSU president, Kim won the rights to host nine major ISU events, the union said.
“We are fully confident that his extensive experience in global business will help take the ISU and skating to another level of expansion and popularity,” said KSU President Hong-geun Yoon said.
Kim said that his focus will be on growth.
“Skating faces challenges with stalled revenues and increased competition,” Kim said. “To ignite the sport’s full potential and reach new fans and markets, the next ISU president must have a long-term strategic plan for growth and the business acumen to implement this plan.”
Kim added that his experience in global business during the past 25 years would help him serve as president.
The ISU presidential election will take place on June 10, during the ISU Congress from June 6 to 10, in Phuket, Thailand.
