Cast, creators of SBS's 'The Penthouse' reunite for new drama

A cluster of cast and creators from the mega-hit SBS drama series “The Penthouse” (2020-21) will gather again for an upcoming series titled “The Escape of the Seven” (translated).

Local media outlets reported that writer Kim Soon-ok and producer Joo Dong-min who worked together on “The Penthouse” and SBS’s “The Last Empress” (2018) will collaborate again with actors Um Ki-joon, Shin Eun-kyung and Yoon Jong-hoon from the prior series, with the addition of Hwang Jung-eum.

Specific details regarding the series have yet to be disclosed to the public, but as the title suggests, it is expected to revolve around the narratives of seven protagonists.

Local broadcaster SBS reported Tuesday that they are “positively reviewing” the series to be aired on its channel.

“The Penthouse” follows elite families that fiercely compete over real estate and education, with a provocative and fast-moving plot fueled by remarkable acting from the cast. Consisting of three seasons, the viewership rating peaked at 29.2 percent. Writer Kim, who made her breakthrough with SBS’s “Temptation of a Wife” (2008-09), is famously known for her makjang storylines, a genre with narratives that are so insanely suspenseful and immoral that they are considered ridiculous.
