The Kia Tigers on Tuesday announced the signing of former major league pitcher Thomas Pannone for $300,000, waiving Ronnie Williams to make room on the roster.

Pannone arrives in Korea having played the first half of the 2022 season with the Triple A Worcester Red Sox, part of the Boston Red Sox organization and the team that succeeded the Pawtucket Red Sox last year.

Pannone has made 14 appearances for the Worcester side this season, picking up five wins and three losses with a 4.57 ERA.

Before his latest spell in the minors, the 28-year-old lefthander spent a couple of seasons predominantly in the majors with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2018 and 2019. Over a total of 49 big league appearances, 13 of which were starts, Pannone picked up seven wins and seven losses with a career 5.43 ERA. Throughout his minor league career, his ERA is 4.09.

Pannone replaces Williams, who struggled in his KBO debut this year. Over 10 starts in the Korean league, Williams recorded three wins and three losses with a 5.89 ERA, missing some games due to elbow issues.

The Tigers have struggled with their foreign pitcher lineup so far this season, with Sean Nolin, who also joined the team this year, currently out with a calf injury.

Despite the roster issues, the Tigers currently sit in fourth place in the KBO with 38 wins and 33 losses as of press time. That success is largely down to solid performances at bat rather than on the mound.

The Tigers currently top the team rankings for batting average, at .268, runs, at 368, RBIs, at 347, and home runs, at 60. When it comes to pitching, however, the Tigers sit in eighth place with a 4.20 team ERA, giving up 58 home runs, the third-highest in the league, and striking out 514 to tie for sixth place.
