Blackpink to release new album in August, tour at end of the year

Girl group Blackpink will be releasing a new album in August, according to its agency YG Entertainment on Wednesday.

"The group is in the final stages of recording," the agency said in a statement. "Blackpink will film its music video this month and release it next month."

The new album is expected to include numerous tracks that "feature the band's signature music style that the members have worked on for a very long time."

YG added that the girl group is also slated to embark on a world tour by the end of this year. "It will be the largest tour that a K-pop girl group has ventured on."

The upcoming album comes after one year and 10 months after its latest album titled "The Album" and the main single "Lovesick Girls" and the pre-released song "How You Like That."

Selling over 1.4 million copies, "The Album" set the record as the first million-selling album by a K-pop girl group. It also debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart and the British Official Chart for albums.

Blackpink debuted in 2016 with its first single “Square One” and has released hit tracks including “Playing with Fire” (2016), “Forever Young” (2018), and “Lovesick Girls” (2020).
