Blackpink's Jennie to appear in upcoming HBO series 'The Idol'

Girl group Blackpink member Jennie will appear in the upcoming HBO series "The Idol."

The 90-second trailer clip of "The Idol" released on HBO's official YouTube channel on Sunday, briefly showed Jennie among the dance crew led by actor Lily-Rose Depp.

Her appearance in the show will mark Jennie's acting debut.

Jennie's agency has yet to confirm her role in the show.

Other stars who will appear in the series are Troye Sivan, Debby Ryan and The Weeknd, whose legal name is Abel Tesfaye.

"The Idol" is set in the current music industry. The plot revolves around a self-help guru and cult leader, portrayed by Tesfaye, who develops a romantic relationship with an up-and-coming female pop idol, portrayed by Depp.

The series is co-created by Tesfaye, Reza Fahim and Sam Levinson.

The exact date of the series' release or the number of episodes has not yet been revealed.

Jennie debuted as a member of the girl group Blackpink in 2016. The group has gone on to release hit tracks including “Playing with Fire” (2016), “Forever Young” (2018) and “Lovesick Girls” (2020).

Blackpink is slated to make its comeback in August. Its upcoming album comes one year and 10 months after its latest album titled "The Album" and the main singles "Lovesick Girls" and "How You Like That." Selling over 1.4 million copies, "The Album" was the first million-selling album by a K-pop girl group. It also debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart and the British Official Chart for albums.
