Red Velvet member Seulgi will soon start her career as a solo artist, according to her K-pop agency SM Entertainment on Tuesday.

"Seulgi is currently preparing for her first solo album, which we hope to release some time in October," said SM in an official statement.

Seulgi debuted as a K-pop singer eight years ago as a member of the five-person act Red Velvet. Red Velvet members are Irene, Wendy, Seulgi, Joy and Yeri. The group is best known for hits such as “Ice Cream Cake” (2015), “Russian Roulette” (2016), “Red Flavor” (2017), “Power Up” (2018) and “Queendom” (2021).

The group's latest music is the EP "The ReVe Festival 2022 - Feel My Rhythm" which was released in March. The EP consists of six songs — the title track “Feel My Rhythm,” as well as “Rainbow Halo,” “Beg For Me,” “Bamboleo,” “Good, Bad, Ugly” and “In My Dreams.”

Seulgi is also part of Red Velvet's subunit "Irene & Seulgi" with member Irene. The duo released an EP titled "Monster" in 2020. Upon release, "Monster" reached No. 1 on the iTunes Top Albums Chart in 45 regions around the world including Canada, France, Spain and Portugal, as well as China's QQ Music and Kugou Music's Digital Album Sales charts, marking a successful debut of the Red Velvet spinoff.
