Volkswagen introduced a partially revamped Jetta sedan for the Korean market Wednesday, as part of efforts to strengthen its gasoline lineup.

Equipped with a 1.5-liter four-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine, the sedan can generate up to 160 horsepower and 25.5 kilograms-meter of torque.

The fuel economy stands at 14.1 kilometers per liter.

“This past year was the time for Volkswagen to get back some colors in Korea,” said Sacha Askidjian, executive director of Volkswagen Korea, during a release event Wednesday in Seongso-dong, eastern Seoul.

“Today we are happy to make our portfolio colorful by introducing more gasoline models.”

Volkswagen has long been criticized in the Korean market as it sells many diesel models compared to other countries.

The German carmaker also unveiled the newest Golf GTI hatchback Wednesday, which will start sales in December.

The hatchback comes with a 2.0-liter gasoline engine, and can generate a maximum of 245 horsepower and 37.8 kilograms-meter of torque.

Specific details will be announced later, the company said.

Volkswagen sold a total of 11,170 vehicles in Korea this year as of the end of October. It is the fourth biggest imported brand, after Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi, according to the Korea Automobile Importers and Distributors Association.
