LG U+ and partners plan campus-based metaverse

LG U+ signed an agreement with Megazone cloud company and game developer Gala Lab to make a metaverse service tailored to university students.

It will aim to introduce it “early next year” according to LG U+ Thursday.

The companies intend to offer the service through school websites, not through a downloaded app, and include educational functions such as online classes, a library and consultations.

The service will also be customized for each school with special attention to security so that only students and faculty have access.

Gala Lab is the developer of massively multiplayer online roleplaying games (MMORPG) Rappelz, Rappelz Mobile, Flyff and Flyff Legacy. Megazone will lend its expertise in managing the cloud network for the service.

“We aim to lead the change in the education environment to cater to the millennials and Generation Z, who are well acquainted with the digital environment and do not like to be bound by time or place,” said LG U+ in a press release.

Last year, LG U+ developed Snowverse, a metaverse campus for Sookmyung Women’s University, with the school, Shinhan Bank and Mammossix.
