[THINK ENGLISH] 요즘대화 사전 Ep.1: 그 잡채, 스불재, 공좋카
1. 그 잡채(geu-japchae)
그 잡채 is a playful pun on the phrase "그 자체(geu-jache)," which means "itself," "the very thing" or "the definitive." Instead of the actual phrase "그 자체", internet users have been using the phrase "그 잡채", swapping out jache for japchae, a noodle dish. Why the switch? Just for the fun of it.
그 잡채는 ‘그 자체’를 재미있게 표현한 말이다. 네티즌들은 ‘그 자체’에서 ‘자체’를 ‘잡채’, 즉 당면으로 만든 음식 이름으로 바꿔서 쓰고 있다. 이유는 없다. 그냥 재밌으니까!

2. 스불재(seubuljae)
스불재는 ‘스스로 불러온 재앙’의 머리글자를 딴 말이다. 글자 그대로 어쩌면 막을 수 있었을지도 모를 재앙이 일어난 상황을 가리킨다.

시험이 내일인데, 이제 공부 시작했다고? 스불재네.
The exam is tomorrow, and you only started studying now? You’re bringing disaster on yourself at this point.

3. 공좋카(gongjoka)
공좋카 is short for 공부하기 좋은 카페, and is used to refer to cafes that are good for those who want to study. Cafes that have a lot of plugs, fast WI-FI, spacious desks and comfortable seating areas would be considered 공좋카.
‘공좋카’는 공부하기 좋은 카페의 준말이다. 공부하려는 사람들에게 좋은 카페를 가리키는 말로 쓰인다. 전원 플러그가 많고, 빠른 와이파이와 넓은 책상을 갖고 있으며 앉아있기 편한 공간을 갖춘 카페들이 공좋카로 분류된다.
( * 공좋카와 비슷한 말로 ‘분좋카’도 있다. ‘분위기 좋은 카페’라는 뜻이다. )

오늘은 진짜 도서관 가기 싫은데, 우리 공좋카 갈래?
I really can't be bothered to go to the library today. Do you want to go to a cafe to study?
